There’s reuse, reduce, and recycle; but now there’s upcycle. Upcycling means giving your things a second chance in life (and in style!). Rather than simply throwing things away, upcycling gives a new look and a renewed reason for existing, one DIY project at a time. Beyond this, you get to save more money and contribute to an environmentally friendly world! Who wouldn’t want to say no to that?
Let’s start with a place that we usually renovate — imagine transforming your kitchen cabinets from drab to fab (and you don’t need RuPaul to explain that).
You might be thinking — why bother when I can buy new cabinets and throw my old ones? When bidding farewell to old cabinets, the traditional disposal methods can leave quite a carbon footprint.
Think about it: landfills bulging at the seams, resources wasted, and the environment sighing in dismay. There are many ways to put together a greener home, one is by upcycling your cabinet and reducing waste to preserve precious resources like wood and metals.
Let's talk about money, honey. Upcycling old cabinets isn't just about saving the planet; it's a savvy financial move too. Buying brand-spanking-new cabinets can put a serious dent in your wallet (not to mention having it reinstalled and everything too).
But with a bit of DIY magic and some elbow grease, you can breathe new life into those old cupboards for a fraction of the cost. It's like scoring an interior designer look on a thrift store budget.
Who says kitchens have to be boring? Upcycling your cabinets opens up a world of creative possibilities. From funky paint jobs to quirky hardware choices, there's no limit to how you can personalize your space.
You won’t be limited to what’s in IKEA either. You can find many kitchen cabinets (that’s not just IKEA) online that you can use in your upcycling or use for inspiration, with rustic charm to sleek modern vibes. Upcycling lets you put your stamp on a repurposed kitchen and turn it into a space that's uniquely yours.
Speaking of safety, this is important when doing a kitchen renovation or creating repurposed cabinets. Wear protective gear when you work with sand, paint or power tools, such as goggles, gloves, and a mask. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines for handling and disposing of the chemicals, especially hazardous chemicals like painting strippers or solvents
For every scrap of old cabinets upcycled, we can save both the environment and our wallets. It lowers waste and cuts costs without skimping on individuality and character. There are many steps you can take to begin upcycling your own Pinterest kitchen beginning with cabinets. You can explore sanding, painting, installing organization systems, and more.
Our kitchens become more gorgeous, practical, and durable, and at the same time, we contribute to a better world by adding old cabinets to their new life. What more can you ask for? Go for 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), and add upcycling into your mix.
]]>As you plan your wedding, you may be shocked to see both the cost and the carbon footprint of your celebration mounting. With services and suppliers available for every detail of your day, from your makeup to your cutlery, hiring or buying everything can get expensive quickly. Plus, many items marketed for weddings are unsustainable and unethically sourced, so it pays to choose your suppliers carefully. If you’re looking to host an eco-friendly wedding and save some money too, here are three tasks you can do yourself.
Sending out your invitations is so exciting, but it can be easy to overlook the environmental impact of these beautiful little cards. Not only are many invitations created from virgin trees, which contributes to deforestation, but the transportation emissions from their production and shipping process all add up.
Instead, create your own invitations either from eco-friendly materials or digitally. You could draw them all by hand, but if you have a large guest list you may want to speed up the process with a little technological support. There are several free design apps you can use to quickly customise professional invitations online, which you can then either send to your guests via email or print out and post. If you want to print and send your invitations the traditional way, be sure to use recycled paper to keep the impact minimal.
Wedding favours come in many different forms. Whilst some are useful, many are left behind at the end of the night and end up being wasted. Rather than spending money on hundreds of small, unsustainable gifts, why not make some eco-friendly favours?
Ask your friends and family to collect any small glass jars and dishes they use, such as those from individual cheesecake or dessert pots, and fill them with sweets or chocolates as favours. Edible favours tend to be wasted less than any other type, and can always be taken home and used by yourselves. Make some fabric circle lids, decorate the jars or tie on some hessian ribbon to complete the look.
You don’t need to be a florist to do your own wedding flowers. In fact, you can grow your own seasonal blooms to use with just a few supplies and a bit of patience. By cutting out the middleman, you emit some of the carbon emissions typically associated with wedding flowers (due to transporting them from overseas) from your bouquets. You’ll also avoid being a part of any unethical labour practices that go into growing exotic flowers, as well as saving money.
If you don’t want to grow your own flowers, you can still DIY them by selecting bunches from a sustainable florist and curating your own bouquets and arrangements. Check that the florist has certifications from organisations such as Veriflora or the Rainforest Alliance, which regulate the quality and ethicality of flowers coming into the country. Better yet, opt for seasonal flowers that have been sourced locally.
When wanting to get creative and complete some of your wedding tasks yourself, the key is to start early and plan ahead. You don’t want to be staying up all night the day before your wedding tying cute ribbons onto 200 favour jars. With a little creativity, you can help to lower the carbon footprint of your wedding day by implementing these tips.
]]>Sulfates in shampoo - a topic that bubbles up in beauty circles with the tenacity of a well-lathered mane.
But what lies beneath these frothy debates?
Are these ingredients harmless additives, or do they pose a more serious concern for our personal health and the environment?
In this article, we'll unpack the truth about sulfates, separating fact from fiction. We'll explore their real effects and whether choosing sulfate-free alternatives, like those from Plantish, are a healthier and more eco-friendly choice.
Let's dive into this sudsy subject and see what we uncover.
Sulfates, a type of surfactant, have long been a cornerstone in personal care products, hailed for their ability to create a satisfying lather.
Their role as surfactants is to lower the surface tension between substances, such as oil and water, making them highly effective in removing dirt and oil.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALES), Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS), and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are the most common synthetic sulfates and are found in a variety of beauty products, including shampoos, body washes, and toothpaste.
Sulfates are prized for their ability to create a rich lather, efficiently removing oils, dirt, and product residue, leaving hair feeling thoroughly cleansed.
Despite their cleansing prowess, sulfates have been scrutinized for potential health risks and environmental impacts.
Questions arise about their biodegradability, tendency to irritate skin and scalp, and strip hair of the natural oils that keep it healthy. So, unless you’re willing to take an ice-cold shower every day (Yes, this has been known to help hair from losing those oils!), you may just want to skip the sulfates… or at least the synthetic ones.
As we consider the role of sulfates in shampoos, it's important to look beyond the bathroom mirror to their wider impact on our health and environment.
Sulfates, particularly Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), are effective cleansers but can strip the skin and hair of natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. Ammonium Laureth Sulfate is the milder of the typical sulfates used in shampoo but can still cause irritation.
This is especially concerning for those with sensitive skin or conditions like eczema, as sulfates may aggravate these issues.
There is an even greater debate on the potential risks that sulfates can pose to our overall health when constant exposure exists.
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES), common sulfates in shampoos, may contain 1,4-dioxane via cross-contamination during manufacturing. This substance, identified in laboratory studies, is associated with cancer risks in animals.
According to the NIH, the claims that sulfates are harmful to humans is false; however, it is understood and agreed that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) does enter the bloodstream through the skin and is then metabolized by the liver!
It's a difficult and conflicting debate to navigate, so it's important to look at the facts only rather than the persuasive opinions surrounding them.
For me, I'd rather just avoid them if there's even a chance they could harm me. The old adage "better safe than sorry" comes to mind.
The environmental concern with sulfates in shampoos centers on their journey beyond our showers as they are washed down the drain – a process often overlooked in our daily routines.
As global sulfate concentrations in freshwater systems rise, it's crucial to acknowledge the various pathways through which these compounds can enter our waterways.
The routine use of personal care products like shampoos, many of which contain sulfates, inevitably plays a part in this cycle. These sulfates once washed away, can have adverse effects on aquatic life, leading to toxicity in amphibians and fish. This inevitably changes their nutritional composition and potentially impacts broader ecosystems and human health.
There is an undeniable interconnectedness between our daily habits and the health of our planet's water systems. As we grapple with these environmental realities, the choices we make in our daily routines, like selecting shampoos, become critical in shaping a more sustainable future for our water systems and the planet.
In light of these health and environmental concerns, certifications like EcoCert play a pivotal role.
EcoCert is a global certification that ensures that products, including shampoos, meet strict standards for sustainability and environmental responsibility. It is particularly relevant in the beauty industry, guaranteeing that ingredients are derived from renewable resources and manufactured through eco-friendly processes.
Opting for shampoos with ingredients certified by EcoCert means choosing a path where nature returns to nature. Unlike synthetic sulfates, these natural and sustainable ingredients, when rinsed down the drain, do not pose the same environmental risks. They are more harmonious with our ecosystems, reducing the negative impact on aquatic life.
Brands that choose to use ingredients certified by EcoCert demonstrate their dedication to offering products that are not only safe and effective but also kind to our planet. Looking for this certification will give you an idea of what a brand's values are. This is another important factor when choosing your daily shampoo and conditioner.
The ethical implications of sulfate use in shampoos are closely tied to the practice of animal testing.
Many shampoos containing sulfates undergo tests on animals to evaluate their safety and skin effects. This raises serious ethical concerns, as it involves exposing animals to potential harm.
As consumers become more aware of these practices, there's a growing push for cruelty-free and ethical beauty products.
Sulfates are potentially harmful to our health, they're harsh on our skin and hair, their use is tied to animal cruelty, and to top it off, they aren't good for the environment.
Choosing to live a conscious lifestyle means we often have to seek alternatives to mainstream products. So what are the alternatives? How do we make better choices for our shampoo? Is sulfate free shampoo an option?
Natural Surfactants: A Gentler Alternative
The shift towards sulfate-free shampoos and natural surfactants in hair care products reflects a growing preference for gentler, more environmentally friendly options.
Unlike traditional sulfates, natural surfactants, derived from plant sources such as coconut and palm oils, offer effective cleansing without harsh effects on skin and hair. Plant-derived sulfate or sulfate-free shampoos are less likely to cause irritation and dryness, making them suitable for sensitive skin types. Their environmental impact is also considerably lower, as they are more biodegradable and less harmful to aquatic life.
Plantish's approach to hair care combines the benefits of natural surfactants with the sustainability assured by EcoCert-certified ingredients and plastic-free packaging.
Their shampoo and conditioner bars, formulated with components like Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate from coconut and palm oils, and Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate from coconut oil, prioritize gentle cleansing.
While these natural surfactants offer a kinder alternative to traditional sulfates, the inclusion of EcoCert-certified ingredients further highlights Plantish's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, ensuring a balance between personal hair care and planetary health.
Plantish offers a sulfate-free shampoo/conditioner set for every type of hair:
Ideal for damaged hair or color treated hair, enriched with argan oil and cocoa butter to nourish and protect.
Best for oily and fine hair, containing kaolin clay and hydrolyzed oats to balance oil production and add volume.
Suitable for all hair types, especially curly and normal to dry hair, offering hydration and gentle cleansing.
The exploration of these ingredients leads us to a crossroads in personal care. The choices we make, influenced by knowledge and awareness, hold power.
Brands like Plantish embody a shift towards healthier, eco-conscious options, offering a tangible way to align our personal values with our daily routines.
This article aims not just to inform but to empower you with the knowledge to choose products that resonate with your health priorities and environmental ethos, marking a step towards a more mindful and sustainable lifestyle - because it's our daily habits that can inflict the most damage or make the greatest waves for change.
How will you choose?

Sure, you can pick up any old dishrag at the big stores, but Swedish sponge cloths? They're a game-changer and have famously been in Swedish kitchens for well over 70 years.
Eco-friendly, super absorbent, and available in the coolest designs, these are so much more than just your average cleaning cloth. Plus, they're a great conversation starter in the kitchen!
These can easily be a main gift but theres tons of versatility to them. My personal favourite is using them as a holiday card but they're great for gift baskets or bundles (especially when you can use them to pad the basket!), or general great at livening up your spaces.
From festive prints to different colours, you'll easily find one that matches what you need while still giving them something physical they'd enjoy.
They're the inspiration for pop up sponges, another plant-based superhero in the kitchen full of diffferent designs to choose from. Pair them together? Now that's a dynamic duo.
Whether they're an eco-warrior or just getting started, bundles are the place to be and leaves very little for you to put together! From cleaning essentials you wouldn't want to miss out on to the relaxing oasis of non-toxic bath bombs and other handcrafted items, you'll find them tucked away in one bundle.
If you're looking to add to those cloths, then a soap cake set with a hand brush is a perfect match that will cover those dishwashing needs.
A soap scrubber bundle is always a safe bet and popular gift we've seen but I'm sure you'll find one that'll match best!
There's so many benefits to using these diffusers instead of those water-based ones with all the messy cords that I touched on in another blog that I can go on about but no cords or water being one of them.
I can't tell you how much of a hassle cleaning a water diffuser can be, let alone the space it takes up and the look of it.
These work with all types of essential oils and are simple as just dropping them onto the little diffuser! It'll naturally do the work and spread those aromatic scents around your space. Compostable and FSC Certified, you can enjoy them guilt-free.
Not quite the fit? Check out these beautiful bamboo products.
Starting on a sustainable journey can be an exciting and impactful endeavor but it can also be the most intimidating.
That's why it's so important to recognize that a journey is never linear and all the small steps are important to lead to a big difference!
With it, for yourself or someone you love, here are some gifts that can serve as stepping stones for a more sustainable lifestyle.
Did you know that regular soaps are made up as much as 70-90% water? That means you're paying mostly for water rather than the active ingredients itself and that's what make solid dish soaps much better value for your wallet.
This also means instead of shrinking down about 3 bottles of that liquid soap to one single bar, it takes up a ton of shipping space and generates more CO2 than needed!
That's why for our starters, I think the soap cake is absolute treasure since it takes little to use. Just wet your brush, brush a little into the soap tin and scrub away! It's concentrated and will cut through all the grease and grime with no problem.
Thanks to the tin, you won't need a soap dish but if you'd like to go a bit more traditional, the soap bar and bricks are waiting for you.
There are always a ton of other bundles that might check off what you're looking for better if this doesn't quite suit you.
From small to extra extra large, find our zero waste sets that especially cover those bigger budgets. They have huge range and if you're trying to knock off all those sustainable swaps, these are where you'll find them without needed to browse and put together a set yourself.
Those dedicated who truly understand the importance of sustainability, can be found in every corner of the world and they know what to look for for those eco-friendly swaps for their lifestyle.
They're the ones who look for products that align with their values, and they prefer items that not only serve their needs but also minimize harm to our planet.
Eco enthusiasts know the drill – it's all about sustainability. Swedish sponge cloths are eco-friendly, super absorbent, and come in a range of earth-loving designs.
They're practically art for your kitchen and it wouldn't be surprise if they had some already. Like most things, they do eventually return to the earth and grabbing them some can help them keep up with their swap.
Just like scented candles, our soaps also run out eventually and with essential oil scented soap bricks, you'll have them picking it over those Bath and Body works candles as a gift. Of course, if scents is a concern, unscented bricks are options that you can find as well!
Handmade in Vancouver with Lydia and the rest of the team, these bricks cover 5 bottles instead of the usual 3 in the bars. Making it all the more valuable.
Also another staple in the kitchen, these plant-based compostable sponges are a swap for those yellow and green sponges we grew up with. Soft efficient scrubbers, they overall so much fun and can add to their stock of sustainable essentials.
Any chefs in the house? The heart of any home is the kitchen, and for those who adore cooking, the kitchen is their sanctuary. These culinary connoisseurs appreciate not only the taste of their creations but also the environment in which they cook.
That's where we take joy in; creating kitchen essentials that are not only functional but also beautiful and eco-conscious.
Our solid dish soaps bars and bricks aren't just practical – they're much more decorative and aesthetic pleasing kitchen essentials. Giving them a warmth no plastic bottle could give.
As a cook, cleaning all those dishes and grime that builds can get tedious. It makes it all the more important to have the right soap for the job and while someone might think a concentrated bar wouldn't tackle it like liquid, you're in for a treat when you see these perform. Who knew cleaning could be so stylish and much better?
To keep up with those styles, it doesn't hurt throwing in a natural stain remover for those unavoidable stains!
With all the scrubbing, how else would you get those dirty baking pans cleaned? Especially when there's caked on food, pulling out a pot scrubber does the trick with its stiffer sisal bristles after a good proper soak. Other brushes like a regular sisal dish brush is best for all those cleaning instances otherwise.
Fun Fact: It's refillable and comes with a free refill! Making it last as much as a year long in just one go since you reuse that handle for as long as it can last before needing replacement.
Even when you do eventually wear these out, you can give it another job in the house like cleaning the floors or the bath tub. Be sure to know which brush goes where so that you don't mix up a job for something else!
As cities eliminate the use of single plastics, it begs the question: how would we carry that produce?
Of course, you could go ahead and carry it bagless but it's not the most protective for those groceries (and with all these prices lately, you'll want to protect those more!).
That's where organic mesh and muslin bags can jump in to carry those groceries or even just help with the storage in the fridge. The cool part is they do have that tare label to make sure you aren't charged for the bag so it's ready to go.
Psst! These also double as a great gift wrap so you're making sure they get two different uses.
Our four-legged friends hold a special place in our hearts, and for dog parents, the bond is immeasurable. Choosing gifts for them means considering the well-being of both the pup and the owner so it makes those ingredients all the more important to look into. That's where these plant-based gifts come in:
Treat the dog parent in your life to a including a dog shampoo bar, shampoo and conditioner bar (for the human) and a mini dedodorant stick. It's a thoughtful and practical gift for both the fur baby and their parent.
As children grow, they learn through play and observation. What better way to introduce them to eco-consciousness and maybe a bit of housework than through fun and engaging gifts?
Pop up Sponges are exactly what you think they do - they pop up in seconds when you add them to water!
Let them be amazed and play with it as a sensory toy with supervision or give them a go at trying more big kid cleanings. Since it's 100% plant-based, free of those toxic chemicals and materials, it is safe if they manage to get a little bite in.
I mean, look at how cute they are with these sponges? The mom of the little guy above let us know he couldn't help biting into to soothe his teething because of how soft it is and while we don't recommend it, it's still so adorable.
Make cleaning an adventure for the little ones with colorful pop-up sponges. They'll have a blast while lending a hand in the kitchen and there's all sorts of cute animals, fruits and more to pick from.
Self-care is essential for maintaining balance and well-being in our fast-paced lives. It's about taking a moment to nurture our minds and bodies, and there's no better time to prioritize self-care than during the holiday season.

Uh-oh.
That moment when you realize you can't remember when you bought it, and then the question pops in: "Does deodorant expire?"
We double-check sell-by dates on our yogurt, get reminders for our car's oil change, and eagerly set alarms for our favorite show's season premiere. But our trusty deodorant? Often, it remains unchecked and unexamined.
But here's the thing—whether you're reaching for antiperspirant, conventional deodorant, or the more natural variety, it's crucial to know that the stuff that's keeping you fresh... is fresh!
Stick around, because we're diving into the great deodorant debate, unraveling the mysteries of expiration dates and active ingredients, and exploring why you might just want to make the switch to something a bit more... plantish.
In short, yes, it does.
But there's a little more to the story.
Antiperspirants, armed with aluminum to block sweat, are labeled as over-the-counter drugs. This means they come with a clear expiration date. Just flip the package, and you'll be in the know.
On the other side of the spectrum, deodorants, be it a conventional brand or the natural kind, fall under the 'beauty products' category. The FDA doesn't mandate them to flaunt expiration dates.
But here's a nugget of truth: they don't have eternal shelf lives. Their protective prowess can fade, and that once-crisp scent might take a different turn.
When we talk about the shelf life of a product, we're essentially discussing its optimal performance period. For deodorants and antiperspirants, this means the time during which they effectively combat sweat or odor.
Antiperspirants come with a listed expiration date, so it's pretty straightforward. Past this date, the product may not block sweat as efficiently, and there's a possibility that the texture or scent can change.
On the other hand, while conventional deodorants don't carry a mandated expiration date, they generally remain effective for 1 to 3 years from the date of production. Factors like exposure to air, sunlight, and extreme temperature can influence their longevity. Over time, the fragrance might fade or change, and the product might not glide on as smoothly.
When it comes to natural deodorants, the lifespan is a bit more delicate - and for a good reason! Living sustainably means choosing products that are organic and preservative-free in nature. This often means their shelf life can be shorter. For deodorants, it is typically around 6 months to a year. Signs of aging include separation of ingredients, changes in texture, or an off-scent.
A golden rule to remember: If you're in doubt about the freshness of your deodorant, especially if it looks or smells different, it's best to replace it. After all, it's a small price for daily comfort and confidence.
Understanding the shelf life of deodorants and antiperspirants is all about the ingredients. Here's how these components impact longevity and effectiveness:
Aluminum Compounds: These form the backbone of antiperspirants, diminishing sweat by blocking ducts. However, over time, their efficacy can wane. It's also worth noting that concerns have arisen regarding health risks tied to prolonged exposure to aluminum. (More on this later.)
Alcohol: Often found in spray deodorants, alcohol can evaporate as time passes, which can reduce the product's lifespan.
Parabens: Acting as synthetic preservatives, parabens ensure a product remains fresh. Yet, due to potential health and environmental impacts, many brands now offer paraben-free alternatives.
Fragrances: The potency of these can diminish, especially if exposed to heat or sunlight.
Essential Oils: These have antibacterial qualities and give a pleasant aroma to combat body odor, but they can degrade or alter in scent, especially when exposed to unfavorable conditions.
Baking Soda: An effective odor neutralizer, but it's worth noting that it can sometimes cause skin irritation.
Arrowroot Powder: This serves as a natural moisture absorber that is much gentler on skin than baking soda, but it can become less effective over time.
Other Ingredients: Some natural deodorants also incorporate beeswax, though it's not universal. Beeswax can offer a smooth application but may not align with vegan preferences.
Ensuring your deodorant remains effective begins with how you store it.
For those sweltering summer days or the chilly winter nights, keeping your deodorant in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight is paramount. This is especially crucial for natural deodorants, which can be more sensitive to temperature changes.
Always make sure the cap or lid is tightly secured after each use. This simple act not only prevents potential messes but also keeps the active ingredients potent by minimizing their exposure to air.
And if you're someone who's always on the go, when traveling, consider placing your deodorant in an organic cotton muslin bag. This little precaution ensures your clothes remain stain-free and your purse or gym bag remains clean, even if the deodorant decides to have a meltdown.
When that trusty deodorant stick has swiped its last, it's crucial to think about its next journey. Before you instinctively toss your expired deodorants in the trash, pause and ponder a more eco-conscious alternative.
Here's a statistic that might give you pause:
Each year, the beauty industry is responsible for producing 120 billion units of cosmetic packaging around the world. That's a lot of potential trash.
But it doesn't have to end up in the landfill...
If your deodorant came housed in a plastic shell, there's a good chance TerraCycle will accept it. TerraCycle is an innovative recycling company that has taken the challenge to recycle traditionally non-recyclable materials, including many cosmetic products.
You could even start a drop-off point for your community.
While we're on the topic of disposal, it's essential to peek into your local waste management system. Cosmetics, surprisingly to many, often fall under hazardous waste. This categorization primarily stems from the ingredients in conventional products.
But, to err on the side of caution, it might be wise to take your natural deodorant for hazardous waste disposal too.
Now, if you've chosen a deodorant like our Rose & Citrus, which proudly boasts a compostable casing, the end of its lifecycle is straightforward. Once empty, the package can join your home compost heap or be picked up for municipal composting.
And for those who've embraced the zero-waste lifestyle with a deodorant bar? You're already ahead of the curve! No wrappings, no casings, just pure, effective deodorant. It's sustainable living made simple!
Even during the chilly embrace of winter, our deodorants remain hard at work. Between cozy indoor heating and the sometimes-hectic holiday preparations, we find ourselves in need of consistent odor protection.
And just as you wouldn't compromise on fresh sunscreen in the summer sun, why should your winter deodorant be any different?
Introducing our Eucalyptus Peppermint Deodorant – a blend capturing the brisk charm of winter. This scent isn't just a nod to the season; it's our commitment to ensuring you use products at their peak freshness.
The invigorating eucalyptus and cool peppermint not only fend off odor but also transport you to a serene, frosty morning.

Effective & Gentle: We've intentionally left out baking soda and aluminum. The result? Odor protection that lasts, without the discomfort of irritation.
"Does deodorant expire?"
It's a question many of us have pondered as we swipe on our daily go-to. As we've explored, the answer isn't always straightforward.
While aluminum-based antiperspirants come with clear expiration dates, the lifespan of a natural deodorant might be influenced by its ingredients and storage conditions. The onset of an unusual odor or a change in texture could be your cue about the freshness.
By understanding the role of ingredients in combating odor-causing bacteria and by choosing an aluminum-free deodorant, you not only prioritize your health but also align with environmentally conscious choices.
Ready to make a fresh start? Responsibly dispose of your expired deodorant and then dive into a refreshing experience with our Eucalyptus Peppermint Deodorant this season!

We get it. The idea of living zero waste seems like just that: an idea. One that looks great on paper, but in real life seems far-fetched if not entirely impossible.
But like all types of change, achieving a low waste or even zero waste lifestyle in our consumerist society doesn’t need to happen overnight. Taking actionable steps towards living sustainably means starting small.
And one of the best ways?
Ditching plastic.
Read on to learn more about why you should ditch plastic at home for good, and 5 easy ways you can start today.
Person using a traditional plastic sponge
Plastic in itself isn’t inherently wrong. Rather, how we use–or misuse–plastic is.
It’s estimated that every minute, one dump truck full of plastic is discarded into our oceans. By the time you’re done reading this blog post, there will be about five more dump trucks worth of plastic added to our oceans.
This not only leads to chemical pollution, but harms wildlife on land and sea alike.
And even when we recycle, about 22% of our recycled products are mismanaged. The only way we can truly save our world from plastic is by drastically decreasing our consumption of this material.
Even if you’ve ditched plastic straws in favor of reusable ones, or switched to reusable shopping bags (both great ways to start living low waste!) plastic is much more abundant in your home than you may realize.
We’ve compiled a list of some common products around your home where plastic is hiding in plain sight:
And how many of these products end up in the trash after one use? One week? One month? If you’re like most people, then the answer is a lot.
Luckily, there are several eco-friendly swaps on the market that are not only plastic-free, but vegan and non-toxic.
Zero waste living means going about your day to day life with the goal of creating little to no waste. The waste that is created is often repurposed in one way or another, or can even biodegrade over time.
Low waste living shares the same goals, but still may involve single-waste items from time to time.
Both are great ways to decrease plastic at home and minimize the amount of waste you throw out that eventually ends up in landfills, our oceans, or other places it won’t biodegrade or doesn’t belong.
One of the best ways to start striving towards this sustainable lifestyle is by looking for eco-friendly swaps to traditional products around your home.
Say goodbye to plastic products and hello to sustainable living with these quick & easy sustainable swaps:
One of the first steps you can make to achieve a zero waste lifestyle starts in your kitchen. Just about everyone knows that reusable water bottles are a great eco-friendly swap for plastic ones, but what about the rest of the single-waste containers that hold your food and drinks?
Instead of using disposable bags for your snacks, consider swapping them out for reusable ones.
The same is true with other food storage items, grocery bags, produce bags, and more!
Are you one to redecorate your home with the latest trends? How about filling your closet with the latest fashion? You might want to think twice next time you swipe your card.
Many of these furniture pieces and clothing items contain harmful microplastics that are rarely recycled properly, leading these microplastics to end up polluting our earth.
Try going to your local thrift store and buying second hand, or focus on purchasing items you know you’ll love in a year–even ten years… not just for one month.
We’re not saying you should never wash your hair or body again. We just believe there’s a more sustainable way for you to scrub away the day’s dirt.
When you use shampoo and conditioner bars that come in eco-friendly packaging, you will get 2-3 bottles out of every bar. That not only saves you money, but keeps around 15 bottles out of landfills each year!
You’ve ditched plastic water bottles, now it’s time to ditch plastic cleaning solution bottles.
From your dish soap to your laundry detergent, there are severable sustainable swaps on the market that will allow you to create a more eco-friendly cleaning routine.
Another benefit? Many of these products don’t contain the same harsh, highly toxic chemicals that traditional cleaners do.
Not only is cleaning green a win for the planet, but a win for you!
By now, you’ve realized that for just about every plastic product in your home, there’s a sustainable swap.
We could list some more amazing options, or you could check them all out here, but there is one important way you can live with low or zero waste: and that’s by encouraging others to do the same.
Believe it or not, many people aren’t overly concerned with the waste they create, or are even aware of the plastics hiding in their home.
You can spread the word about the need to ditch plastic at home by…
Who knows, you may just encourage someone to strive towards a zero waste lifestyle, potentially doubling your impact of plastic waste reduction.
And another great way to make sure you’re sticking to your low waste goals? Do it with a friend!
Experts say that working with a friend towards a similar goal not only helps hold you accountable, but keeps you motivated.
Remember, you’re not on this journey alone.
At Plantish, we believe striving towards a zero waste lifestyle is a perfectly imperfect journey that everyone can start today.

Do you want to make your home eco-friendly, but don't know which paint to choose? With so many different accreditations and brands in the paint market, it can be a minefield trying to find a planet-friendly option that suits you.
Luckily, there are plenty of beautiful and sustainable shades that can help bring an organic touch to your abode. From natural greens perfect for creating a calming atmosphere to bright yellows inspiring energy and positivity, environmentally-friendly paints come in a range of colours that can help transform any size space into a stylish sanctuary. In this blog post we'll explore which features to look for, as well as top shades, so you can find the perfect colour scheme for your eco-friendly home.
Paint might not be an obvious culprit for being unsustainable, but the compounds it contains can be damaging to the environment, plus the pots it comes in are often made from plastic. The main principle of an eco-friendly paint is that it won’t contain Volatile Organic Compounds, that give paint that familiar smell. These gases are released into the air in our homes and can be harmful to your health when inhaled.
You should also do some research about the company that you’re buying from, and try to ensure that they’re supporting sustainable supply chains and using metal tins or another eco-friendly alternative. If you’re uncertain, look for an official certification, such as B-Corp.
We all know that colour choice can show personality in our homes. But how do you go about choosing your colour scheme? And how can you create the mood that you’re looking for in different spaces in your home? Let’s take a look.
Certain areas in your home should be a calming zone, where you can rest and enjoy spending quality time. Living rooms and bathrooms are two examples – they’re where you unwind and can be spaces where you spend a lot of time.
Consider using blue or green in these spaces for a natural feel. They’re both colours that have been linked to promoting rest and lowered stress levels, so they’ll be perfect for calmer spaces.
Kitchens and offices are spaces where you may want to feel more energized and uplifted. Pink and yellow are both bolder colours that inject lots of personality into a space, as well as a sense of playfulness. They can also be great choices for children’s playrooms or bedrooms.
If going all-in with these shades feels a bit too much, then consider painting the ceilings, skirting board or furniture instead to give a pop of colour without a full commitment.
We all crave a good night’s sleep, and the environment we create around us can really help. Again, opting for natural colours like blue and green can help, along with neutrals like white, cream, taupe and pale pink. If you’re feeling dramatic, go for a dark blue or even black on your ceiling to create the illusion of a night sky.
Ultimately, the choice of colour is yours, and the joy of paint is that you can always change it later. But to reduce waste, try to plan carefully and consider how you want the space to feel, and use samples before you commit to one colour – the planet will thank you for it.

However, these versatile tools are not just for washing dishes and can be utilized in much more useful, creative ways or areas outside of their traditional domain. In this article, we will explore five alternative uses for pot scrubbers beyond the kitchen, showcasing some of the many way to utilize or try out these brushes.
When it comes to cleaning a BBQ grill, choosing the right tool is crucial. A plant-based pot scrubber, like one made from sisal, offers several benefits over a metal brush.
First, sisal pot scrubbers are non-abrasive, meaning they won't scratch or damage the grill's surfaces, including delicate non-stick coatings. Making them last longer while effectively removing grease and the charring left on your grates from your summer parties.
The biggest benefit? Unlike metal brushes, sisal pot scrubbers do not leave behind metal bristles that wire grill brushes do. These pieces of metal have the potential to end up in your food and pose a health risk, to the point where Health Canada issued a standard to help reduce this risk.
Sisal is a natural material that is biodegradable and eco-friendly, making it a sustainable. By opting for a plant-based pot scrubber like sisal, you can enjoy a safe, effective, and environmentally friendly cleaning experience for your BBQ grill.
This scrubby can find new life in the world of gardening. Their abrasive texture makes them perfect for gently scrubbing your plant pots, removing stubborn dirt and grime.
You can also repurpose pot scrubbers by adding bristles to your soil mixtures. This innovative approach not only adds a unique touch to your garden but also promotes proper drainage and airflow for healthier plants.

They can be amazing tools for tackling other cleaning tasks around the house like removing food residue off your counters removing soap and hard water scum from bathroom tiles, grout cleaning or scrubbing away grime from hard-to-reach corners.
The non-scratch nature of most pot scrubbers ensures they won't damage delicate surfaces like tiles, porcelain or glass, making them a safe option for multiple cleaning applications.
For instance, we’ve found them super useful for those air fryers that go through high heat and multiple types of food daily.
With all the built-up burnt scraps, it makes using regular sponges or brushes harder to use but this brush gets the job done.
This affordable kitchen brush can be a surprisingly effective tools for cleaning the bottoms of your shoes and other outer footwear, including hiking boots.
The bristles or fibres of the scrubber are perfect for tackling stubborn dirt, mud, and stains that gather throughout the seasons without damaging your shoes.
Unlike a sponge, it can reach into the nooks and crannies of shoe soles and tread patterns, removing embedded debris and enhancing traction. They are also easy to clean and maintain.
By using a brush, you can effectively rejuvenate your shoes, prolong their lifespan, and ensure they remain fresh and ready for your next adventure.
Unleash your creativity by incorporating pot scrubbers into arts and crafts projects. These humble scrubbers can be transformed into unique decorations, such as wreaths, ornaments, or even sculptures.

Let your imagination run wild and explore the limitless possibilities!
Pot scrubbers are not limited to their role in the kitchen; they offer a wealth of alternative uses that can enhance various aspects of our lives.
From assisting in gardening and household cleaning to fueling your creative projects and providing amusement for your pets, pot scrubbers showcase their versatility and resourcefulness outside the kitchen.
So, the next time you come across a pot scrubber, think beyond the kitchen sink and explore the possibilities waiting to be discovered. Embrace your creativity, try out these alternative uses, and witness how a simple tool can be transformed into something extraordinary.
Remember, innovation knows no bounds, even when it comes to the humble pot scrubber!
In our pursuit of a clean kitchen, we often overlook the issue in our kitchens - the use of plastic sponges and their hidden drawbacks. So let’s explore the truth about our sponges and the mistakes that you could avoid for a healthier, non-toxic home. By understanding the implications of our choices, we can make informed decisions to foster a more sustainable and environmentally conscious kitchen environment with all its health benefits.
Contrary to popular belief, most of the conventional kitchen sponges we buy are made from non-biodegradable and inorganic materials, namely plastic. While plastic of all the sponge types may seem to be more durable, they aren’t engineered for longer periods than they are intended to be used for. On average, these sponges actually last for only a few weeks to a few months, depending on how much their used and how well they’re maintained. Over time, they become breeding grounds for bacteria, compromising hygiene and potentially jeopardizing our health.
Fortunately, alternative options exist that not only prioritize cleanliness but also demonstrate a commitment to sustainability. Enter the realm of plant-based sponges—a superior choice especially for anyone that’s more conscientious kitchen maintenance. Crafted from biodegradable, plant-based materials such as cellulose and loofahs, these sponges are designed to naturally degrade over time, thereby mitigating their impact on the environment. Making these sponges compostable and helping be more holistic when it comes to sustainable waste management.
In light of the environmental consequences posed by plastic kitchen sponges, it's crucial to explore sustainable alternatives like these that prioritize both cleanliness and eco-consciousness. Opting for eco-friendly sponges can significantly reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier planet as these sponges are typically crafted from renewable resources such as plant-based materials or natural fibres. By selecting these options and avoiding more non eco friendly cleaning products, we actively promote a much more sustainable approach to our daily cleaning routines.
Beyond their positive environmental impact, these more sustainable sponges offer some huge health benefits compared to their plastic counterparts. Traditional common sponges often become breeding grounds for bacteria over time. Not only compromising the cleanliness of our kitchens but also increasing the risk of cross-contamination and potential health hazards.
In comparison, plant-based loofah sponges are designed with materials that naturally inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, promoting a healthier and safer cleaning experience. These sponges are free from harmful chemicals and toxins often found in plastic sponges, making them ideal for individuals with sensitivities or allergies.
Maintaining optimal hygiene and prolonging the life of your sponge is crucial for both environmental and health reasons. While the exact lifespan of a sponge may vary, a general rule of thumb is to replace it every two to four weeks. Signs of wear and tear, foul odours, or noticeable discoloration are indicators that it's time for a new sponge, regardless of the duration.
To maximize the lifespan and effectiveness of any sponge, including eco-friendly alternatives, proper care and maintenance are essential. Thoroughly rinse the sponge after each use, wring out excess water, and store it in a well-ventilated area to prevent bacterial growth. Regular sanitization, such as microwaving or soaking the sponge in a vinegar and water solution, helps ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment.
To create a sustainable and healthier kitchen cleaning routine, consider trying out the following tips:
By choosing eco-friendly alternatives, such as a compostable eco sponge, embracing reusable cleaning cloths, opting for non-toxic cleaning solutions, and practicing mindful consumption, you can make a significant impact in reducing plastic waste and creating a cleaner, greener future. It all starts with one simple change or in this case, one sponge.

The bathroom is often one of the smallest spaces in a home, and yet it somehow needs to cover holding all the essentials in our daily routines. Making storage a challenge, especially in smaller bathrooms with cluttered showers that can make it frustrating when trying to find your soap bar. The solution? Something simple that will not only keep your shower area organized but also maximize your storage and counter spaces in your houses or apartments: soap dishes.
Say goodbye to slippery, soggy soap bars and hello to a tidy and organized shower area. Soap dishes, also known as soap trays, give you a designated spot for your soap bar, preventing it from slipping and sliding around, creating a mess on your shower floor. With a soap dish, your soap bar stays in place, making it easily accessible and saving you the hassle of searching for it during your shower routine. No more bending down or reaching awkwardly to retrieve a dropped soap bar. Plus, with a soap dish, your soap bar can dry properly between uses, extending its lifespan and saving you money in the long run.
Depending on the design of the soap dish, you can also use it to store other small items, such as razors, loofahs, or even other bars like shampoos or conditioners. It's like having an extra shelf in your shower without taking up any additional space. This clever use of a soap dish helps declutter your shower caddy, keeps your shower floor clear, and allows you to have everything you need within arm's reach during your shower.
One of the often-overlooked benefits of using soap dishes is their role in preserving your soap and keeping your shower ledges clean. Soap bars that are left sitting on wet surfaces can quickly become soggy and mushy, leading to a lot of the bars going to waste and a shorter lifespan. Leaving these surface areas unkept can also lead to mildew or even mold. By giving them a dedicated spot after you wash up and exfoliate, these soap holders in showers allow for proper drainage and airflow around the bars, giving them to dry thoroughly between uses. Helping preserve the shape and texture of the soap, thus utilizing the most out of each bar.
Soap dishes are also super key to keeping your shower ledges clean and free from soap residue. When soap bars are left directly on surfaces, they can leave behind a soapy residue that can be difficult to clean. With the dishes, they can elevate the soap off the ledge, preventing direct contact and minimizing the chances of residue buildup or direct water draining into the tub instead. This makes it easier to maintain a clean and hygienic shower environment, while also reducing the need for frequent scrubbing and wiping of surfaces. If they even have two layers like a dual-layer bamboo soap dish, you don’t even have to worry about the draining since it collects the soapy water for you.
When it comes to soap dishes, there are a variety of options to choose from, catering to different styles and preferences. To get the best of both worlds of eco-friendly and durable, there are two soap dishes that come to mind:
Bamboo
Bamboo soap dishes are a fantastic choice. They’re sustainable and add a touch of style to your bathroom decor with their natural wood grains. Lightweight, durable, and naturally water resistant, it’s no wonder they’re gaining popularity in other household products. Such as hair brushes and even a cornstarch dental floss case.
Diatomite
If more neutral elegance is what you're after, a self-drying soap dish made of diatomite can complement any bathroom aesthetic. This diatomite dish in particular has drainage holes with pathways on the bottom to direct any liquids toward your bathtubs or sinks. Draining the liquid where you want it to go rather than spread it all over those ledges and bathroom sink counters. It also wicks away the water from the bar with ease due to its absorbency.
With so many benefits over traditional plastic soap trays and how they still look amazing while doing their jobs, it is almost no-brainers to give either of these a try.
Don't settle for disorganized shower spaces and counters when you can have a streamlined and efficient setup in place with the help of soap dishes. The possible combinations are almost endless to make the most of your bathroom spaces. From preventing soap bar mishaps to decluttering your shower area, soap dishes are the unsung heroes that transform your shower routine. So, bid farewell to shower chaos and welcome the shower space saviours—soap dishes—to your bathroom. Get ready to experience the real dream routine with a more organized, functional, and stress-free shower experience.

When you think of sponges, your mind probably drifts to kitchen cleanup duty. But what if we told you that compact pop-up sponges can be your secret weapon for transforming your shower experience? Get ready to discover the untapped potential of how these plant-based sponges can take your shower routine to the next level. You’ll be surprised by how versatile they are in the bathroom.
If you grew up with those magic growing toys like the magic capsule dinosaurs, then you’re already familiar with one of the many alternative ways to use these sponges. Back then, those expandable water toys used a gelatin-like capsule to keep them contained. But these cellulose sponges don’t need any of that.
Cellulose is made of natural plant fibres such as wood pulp or cotton and is popularly used to make kitchen sponges, like the popular swedish sponge cloths and pop-up sponges. This is what makes it super absorbent, soft and flexible. It’s completely biodegradable and renewable sourced, made without those harmful chemicals or plastic like they've been made traditionally. Making it not only a match for any kitchen but the scrubbers in the bathroom as well.
With the help of the textured surface of the sponge, they’re not only great for scrubbing the dishes but excel at gently exfoliating too. It helps slough off those dead skin cells, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and revitalized. So say goodbye to expensive exfoliating scrubs and hello to the budget-friendly exfoliating power of pop-up sponges.
Plus, if you’re stressed after a long day, these trusty companions can double as a massaging tool as the soft but stimulating texture can provide a great massage experience in the shower. Simply rub the sponge gently on your favourite bar of soap and let its surface work its magic, easing tension and promoting relaxation.
We all love a good lather during our showers, don't we? Well, the sponges are here to make that lathering experience even better, unlike those plastic loofahs that tend to unravel. These sponges naturally create a rich and foamy lather, ensuring every inch of your body gets covered with suds. Plus, they're highly absorbent, meaning you'll need less soap to achieve it.
Pop-up sponges aren't just for pampering yourself—they're also great for cleaning in the shower itself. The soft texture of these sponges makes them gentle enough to clean delicate surfaces like glass shower doors, tiles, and fixtures. If you even use it with dish soap to clean those mirrors and glass, it could even help prevent them from fogging up. They're effective in removing soap scum, hard water stains, and other grime that accumulates in your shower. So, you can bid farewell to harsh cleaning brushes and embrace the versatility of pop-up sponges. But of course, use different sponges between cleaning and showering.
One of the best things about pop-up sponges is their compact and portable design. They easily fit into your toiletry bag, making them perfect for travel. So whether you're headed to a weekend getaway or an extended vacation, your pop-up sponge can be your reliable companion, providing all the benefits of exfoliation, massage, and lathering no matter where you go.
Who would have thought that those unassuming pop-up sponges could bring such versatility and surprise to your shower routine? From exfoliating your skin and providing invigorating massages to creating a lather of luxury and simplifying cleaning tasks, these little wonders are truly a game-changer. So, the next time you step into the shower, grab your pop-up sponge and explore the possibilities. Prepare to be amazed by the unexpected joys that await you beyond the kitchen sink. It's time to take your shower experience to new heights and indulge in a little self-care with the help of pop-up sponges.

Getting ready for a camping trip and hitting the road is like gearing up for an adventure. But let’s be real, packing can be a bit of a challenge, especially when it comes to storage space in your cars while trying to minimize waste as much as possible. We all know that single-use items tend to be a big part of our camping checklists, leaving us a mountain of trash and a guilty conscience. Adding all the dirty clothes piling up, it can get messy and crowded in the car more than we’d like.
Thankfully, there’s a game-changing solution: reusables and zero waste essentials. These alternatives can not only help lighten the load and be more eco-friendly, but they can also bring a whole new level of convenience to our outdoor escapades. Let’s explore the world of these essentials that will change how you camp, be more sustainable and leave no trace!
Common plastic utensils, plates and cups
Let's be honest—we've all relied on those convenient disposables we use only a few times or even just once during camping trips. Think plastic plates, disposable cutlery, and individually wrapped everything. Those single-use items, while convenient, leave behind a trail of plastic waste. Paper isn’t too much help either as while it is better, it still is a waste and throws away dollars that could have been spent on something else or even reusables.
Transitioning from relying on single-use to embracing reusables and other practices for your trips might feel like a big change at first. The World Economic Forum shares seven great principles to follow to help leave no trace and here are 3 simple tips that you can take in first to steer you in the same direction:
Being prepared is the ultimate practice to being much more sustainable and when we say go with reusables, we don’t mean completely right away! You can change everything overnight but you can try out a few things at a time.
There are more benefits to reusables and zero waste than you might think about. These trusty companions not only reduce waste, but they can also save you money in the long run, be healthier and safer to use and shift your camping experience for the better. In fact, you might find them much more convenient.
For example, ever thought about how you could still enjoy your essential oils on the road? Wooden diffusers are perfect for those long drives and have so many reasons why you should opt for one instead of those trees hanging on your rear view mirror.
There's a world of reusable goodness waiting to join your camping gear collection and while there's a ton we could recommend for on-the-go, thrifting is always a great option for something more affordable to start. Remember to keep the long term in the picture and invest in those quality items where you can!
One thing that’s always bothered me is how expensive those travel sizes can be and in situations where I have to limit the amount of liquids when travelling, those bulky containers and refilling is such a hassle. That’s just one of many reasons why you should cut down on those plastic bottles and opt for concentrated bars filled with plant-based ingredients that are just as powerful and refreshing, if not better than what you already use.
Dishwashing soap is one of many types of bars that you can bring along and its possibilities go beyond just washing dishes. Some ways you can make the most out of a dish soap bar in the great outdoors include:
So whether you’re bathing in the wilderness or in a cabin with running water, these compact bars are the way to go to reap their natural benefits for your hair, skin and the dishes or clothes you may wash.
By ditching disposables and embracing sustainable alternatives like a solid dish soap bar you'll reduce waste, save money, and leave a positive impact on the environment. But don't stop there—bring along a whole team of reusable heroes, from reusable bags and food storage to cutlery, and watch your eco-friendly camping game soar. Together, we can continue to enjoy the great outdoors while keeping Mother Earth happy and healthy for generations to come!

Spring cleaning is one of those unavoidable annual activities that brings a new lease of life to any home. The benefits of this traditional ritual go far beyond clearing the cobwebs from the corners and giving your space a much-needed makeover; it can have profoundly positive impacts on both your physical and mental well-being. If you’re looking to maximize your return on investment, here are three ways you can turn a simple spring clean into an opportunity for lasting transformation.
The mammoth task of a spring clean can be daunting. So much so that many homeowners may even be put off getting going, as with so much to do, it can be difficult to know just where to start. To ensure you can get the most out of your cleaning time, we recommend you start by creating a schedule and break your house down into smaller, more manageable chunks. Don’t try to tackle the entire home in one day; start with a room (or even a section of a room) and work your way around the home!
Depending on the type of cleaner you are, you may prefer to take on the more heavy-duty areas first like the kitchen and bathroom. Or you could look to start with a few smaller tasks and save these ones for later. Whatever your preference, creating a schedule will help you stick to a cleaning routine and will ensure your entire home gets a thorough going over.
However clean your house may become, using the wrong products and equipment can come at the detriment of the world beyond your home. There are so many different ways you can establish a more sustainable cleaning routine, from buying equipment made from renewable resources to using your own homemade solutions.
There is a big plastic problem in the cleaning industry, but more alternatives are being seen on the market, which is making it easier to create a plastic-free cleaning routine. From brushes to scrubbers to cloths, eco-conscious manufacturers are using materials that are kinder to the planet in these products, meaning you can enjoy a more guilt-free, sustainable spring clean. Plastic bottles of detergent are also an issue, so finding alternatives like laundry strips or even making your own solutions and storing them in reusable containers is a huge step towards going green when you clean.
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be simply about reinvigorating your home – it’s also an opportunity to get a little exercise into your weekly routine. Without any extra effort, cleaning can in itself feel like a workout, but if you want to take it one step further, there are plenty of ways to combine your cleaning time with a few additional exercises.
For example, instead of arching your back to pick up any laundry and throw it in the washing machine, why not squat down slowly to work the muscles in your legs, abs and glutes? Remember, if you are going to incorporate squatting into your cleaning workout, always maintain proper form and posture, and don’t overload yourself by trying to carry too much at once. Or, when dusting shelves and window sills, use it as a chance to stretch your entire body, or even perform some calf raises to strengthen your legs.
These are just a few of the ways you can feel more benefits from your spring cleaning. So before your next big spruce-up, keep these tips in mind and you will continue to feel the benefits long after the final speck of dust has been polished.

If you're looking for a better shaving experience that's gentler on your skin, then it might be time to consider a single-blade razor. These razors are a throwback to an era when shaving was simpler, and there’s a reason they worked so well then. More blades do not necessarily mean better and when it comes to facial hair grooming, you’ll want to choose the right tool for the job. So let’s explore everything about metal safety razors and how single-blades offer several benefits over multi-blade razors to help you make the switch.
Razors come in various forms depending on the job. From face razors to the common plastic ones many uses for all kinds of grooming, these also can come in a mix of materials. Most metal safety razors are made from stainless steel or chrome-plated brass. Stainless steel is a popular choice because of its durability, corrosion resistance, and overall how it's much easier to clean.
On the other hand, chrome-plated brass is also a popular choice because of how much more affordable it is than stainless steel but still provides excellent durability and corrosion resistance. Both can be solid options to choose from but ultimately, if you’d want something super long-term, go with stainless steel. It has great edge retention and coupled with its resistance to rust and low maintenance, it may be your best choice. Plus, unlike how brands tend to categorize them as women's razors or men's razors, metal safety razors are not gender specific and safe to use for anyone.
Compared to other razors like Gillette, metal safety razors have several advantages. Metal razors overall are the better alternative to plastic razors because of how much more durable and sustainable they are as they are built to last. Unlike plastic razors that break easily and end up in landfills, metal ones can last a lifetime with proper care. Rather than replacing the whole razor when the blade wears down, you can refill them with new razor blades and recycle the used ones. While they might seem expensive at first, buying those cheap plastic razors can be costly over time. Especially when compared to those electric razors.
Now when it comes to single-blades vs multi-blade razors, the edge goes to single blades for its ease of use and results. With one blade, it’s able to glide over the skin without any tugging or pulling that would typically cause those ingrown hairs and irritation. When more blades are involved, the more damage it can cause with how they all cut at a different level. Thus even creating an uneven shave.
Using multiple blades also means more that are used at one time and need to be replaced. Making them much less cost-effective and wasteful even if they can be recycled. Just like those plastic razors, they seem much cheaper and effective at first but the cost of replacements adds up over time.
After each use, you would need to ensure you at least rinse the razor thoroughly with warm water and pat it dry with a towel. To remove any build-up or residue, you can also use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the razor.
To keep your metal razor in top condition, it's important to clean it thoroughly and regularly. Here's how to get a deep clean:
Remember to never share a razor with anyone, regardless of who as it can spread bacteria due to the nicks in the skin it creates and cause a serious health issue.
It's important to dispose of your used razor blades safely to prevent injury to yourself or others and recycling razor blades is a great way to make your grooming routine more sustainable.
Here are some options for recycling razor blades:
Metal safety razors are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a more cost-effective, eco-friendly, and skin-friendly alternative to the popular Gillette razors. By using a single blade, you’ll ultimately get a closer, more precise shave that is less likely to cause irritation or ingrown hairs. And with regular cleaning and recycling, you can ensure that your razor lasts as long as possible, saving you money while being sustainable.

Loofahs are no longer just shower accessories and skin exfoliators found in your bathroom. They have grown to have many different uses, including becoming an essential tool in the kitchen for scrubbing dishes, cleaning surfaces, and even straining liquids.
So let’s explore the alternative uses of loofah sponges and how they’ve become an unexpected but powerful kitchen essential.
Close up look at loofah gourds in a garden
Loofahs are made from the fibrous skeleton of the loofah plant, which is a type of gourd that is actually a part of the cucumber family. When the plant matures, they are harvested and left to dry before the outer skin is removed, leaving you with the fibrous skeleton that we know and love. This creates a natural scrubbing sponge that is perfect for cleaning and exfoliating.
One of many fun facts about them is that in the past, many people believed that they were actually from the ocean and even a sea sponge. This was a common myth and we’re thankful that these sponges are actually land vegetables that don’t need to be taken from our waters!
One of the main benefits of using a loofah sponge is that it is completely natural and sustainable. Unlike synthetic sponges, which can be made from harmful chemicals, loofahs are free from toxins and safe to use. They're also biodegradable, which means they won't harm the environment when you're done with them.
Here are even more benefits you can get from them:
But what about the benefits in the bathroom? Read more about it in All About Loofahs.
If you're tired of using sponges and scrubber pads that hold onto food particles and smell quickly, it's time to switch to loofahs. Their natural fibres provide gentle yet effective cleaning, making them perfect for removing stubborn food particles and stains from dishes. Plus, they're more hygienic than traditional sponges, and they won't scratch or damage your cookware.
Loofahs scrubbers are perfect for cleaning surfaces in the kitchen. They're great for scrubbing countertops, stovetops, and even tile floors. Their natural texture makes them perfect for tackling tough grime and grease, and they won't damage your surfaces. Not to mention they pair well with dish soaps, especially dishwashing soap bars.
If you don't have a fine mesh strainer on hand, don't worry. Loofahs can be used as a makeshift strainer for liquids like broth or tea. Simply cut a small piece of loofah and use it to strain your liquids. The natural fibers will catch any solids or particles, leaving you with a smooth liquid. But of course, we don’t recommend using the same loofah you use to scrub the dishes for this!
To keep your loofahs clean and hygienic, it's important to rinse them thoroughly after each use and hang them in a well-ventilated area to dry completely. To disinfect them, soak them in a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar for 10-15 minutes, then rinse and dry. You can also boil them to get a full clean.
Loofahs are the unexpected kitchen essentials that everyone needs in their cleaning arsenal. They're versatile, natural, and eco-friendly, making them the perfect choice for anyone looking to level up their cleaning game. Whether you're scrubbing dishes, cleaning surfaces, or straining liquids, loofahs are up to the task. So next time you're doing dishes or cleaning your kitchen, reach for a loofah and see the difference it can make.

Disposable cotton swabs, also known as Q-tips or cotton buds, have been a household staple for decades. These tiny disposable tools have been used for everything from personal hygiene to makeup applications and cleaning small areas. But while they can be convenient for some tasks, they also are a major contributor to plastic waste in the environment, and can cause harm to our ears.
This is where reusable cotton buds come in, made with sustainable and more user-friendly materials such as bamboo or silicone. When a great alternative like this exists that helps you save money, reduce waste and cover all types of uses that your qtips in the past had, it’s a no-brainer to at least give it a chance. So here’s what you’ll need to know about these reusables and the ways you could use them.
Close up of single-use cotton swabs
When you’ve used a cotton swab in the past, you’ve probably used ones with different materials. Cotton swabs that you’ll find in most stores are composed of a plastic or paper stick with a tightly-wrapped cotton tip on either end and that's not considering all the resources they take to produce. Because of this, most are not recyclable and those that are biodegradable do not necessarily mean they’ll break down quickly or benefit the earth.
Reusable cotton buds on the otherhand offer a much more sustainable and hygienic alternative to traditional cotton buds, giving you multiple advantages to making the switch. They’re made to last you for much longer and depending on what you need them for, can either reduce the number of qtips you use on the daily without grabbing a couple of new ones or completely swap it into your routine to replace them.
Their other benefits include:
Woman using a disposable qtip to clean her ear
Itchy ears are commonly caused by excessive ear wax and other problems. If you’re all for cleaning your ears, using a reusable cotton bud is similar to those single-use swabs but with a few important differences to keep in mind. Here’s how to clean your ears with any cotton swab:
It's important to note that cleaning your ears with cotton buds should be done with care and caution. As well that there are other methods to safely remove earwax to consider. If you experience any pain, discomfort, or hearing changes after cleaning your ears, it's best to consult a healthcare professional for advice.
A closer look at Plantish Future's Reusable Cotton Buds
Whether you’re on the side for or against using these swabs for cleaning your ears, it’s the first thing people think of and the most common practice intended to help with hygiene. However, there are other ways you can use them and say goodbye to those qtips:
These are just some of the many common uses you’ll find them for but don’t be afraid to get creative as there are much more ways to use them.
Just because they’re not friendly to our planet, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice something as important to you as personal hygiene or cleanliness. With any disposable, there are much more reusables or practices that you can utilize. While they take a bit of getting used to, making the switch is worth it when you can reduce your environmental impact, save money, and enjoy the versatility and comfort something reusable like this can offer.
]]>Earth Hour has a lot more meaning behind why we turn off our lights and we’ve got some things you can do to make use of that time (or go beyond the hour).
]]>Every year, people around the world come together to be a part of Earth Hour, a global event that we all grew up with within our communities and turned off our lights for one hour. The idea is simple yet powerful: by turning off our lights, we can send a message about the urgent need to take action on climate change and show our commitment to protecting the planet.
It can even be considered a tradition and almost a routine for us to do this every year. However, Earth Hour has a lot more meaning behind why we turn off our lights and we’ve got everything you’ll want to know about what you can do differently (or go beyond the hour).
Earth Hour is an annual event organized and started by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Sydney, Australia back in 2007. What originally started as a lights-out event had grown and become an action that “millions of people across the world would join in raising awareness of the nature crises facing our planet”.
It takes place on the last Saturday of March and for this year, you can expect Earth Hour to fall on March 23, 2024, at 8:30 pm in your local time. During this hour, people are encouraged to turn off all non-essential lights in their homes and businesses to raise awareness of the environmental challenges we face and demonstrate their support for a sustainable future.
Earth hour is set around the time of the Spring and Autumn equinoxes for both hemispheres of the planet. But what does this mean and why 8:30 pm local? Because this is when our two hemispheres have the closest sunset, allowing everyone across the globe to be a part of it near the same time. This also makes having the lights out hard to notice.
When the idea for Earth Hour started, it was when the WWF-Australia team was looking for a way to raise awareness about climate change. They decided to hold an event where people could turn off their lights for one hour, and the response was overwhelming. The first Earth Hour in Sydney saw 2.2 million homes and businesses turn off their lights, and the event quickly spread to other cities and countries around the world.
Since then, Earth Hour has become a global movement, with millions of people participating each year. The event has inspired individuals, communities, and governments to take action on climate change, and has helped to raise awareness of the importance of protecting the planet.
Turning off the lights for one hour might seem like a small gesture, but it sends a powerful message about the need to take action on climate change. By reducing energy consumption, we can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and slow the pace of global warming.
But the movement is more than just turning the lights off. It's an opportunity for us to reflect on the impact we have on the planet and think about the changes we can make to live more sustainably. It's a reminder that we all have a role to play in protecting the environment and creating a more sustainable future.
Bringing us together, Earth Hour has led to many accomplishments and other movements in the 16 years it has been around.
There are a ton of things you can do besides turning off the lights and here are some ideas:
Earth Hour is just the beginning of what you can do. To make a real impact on the environment, we need to take steps every day.
If you need some help with where you can start making sustainable changes, these are some great starting points:
Putting together a green home is not easy and takes some getting used to but don't be surprised if you end up liking these changes even better.
Earth Hour is a reminder of the power that we have and an opportunity for us to come together as a community to make a difference. Whether it’s by turning off our lights, taking a walk in nature, or volunteering in our community, we can all do our part to make a more sustainable future.
It’s not just about what we do in this one hour but the actions that we take every single day. Making small changes in our lives is what lead to changes, just like how one event in Australia turned into something we all know and join in on.
]]>Essential oil diffusers are becoming much more common, not only to create a pleasant and inviting atmosphere in spaces with our favourite scents but to even get the benefits of aromatherapy. Whether you use them to help you relax, boost your energy levels or improve your mood, there's no denying that they offer a range of benefits.
However, when we're on the go, it can be challenging to use essential oils without the proper equipment or plug-ins. That's where wooden diffusers for cars come in and how you can enjoy carrying all the scents you love wherever you travel.
If you're looking for a high-quality, convenient and sustainable option for your essential oil needs, a wooden diffuser might be a perfect choice. Wooden diffusers offer several benefits over plastic diffusers, including eco-friendliness, convenience, durability, authenticity, and aesthetics.
In this list, we'll explore each of these benefits in more detail, so you can make an informed decision when choosing your next diffuser:
1. Eco-friendly and sustainable: Wooden diffusers that are FSC Certified and 100% natural wood materials can be easily recycled or composted, reducing the impact on the environment. In contrast, plastic diffusers are often made from non-biodegradable materials that produce plastic waste and typically need electricity.
2. No water, no humidity: Unlike plastic diffusers, wooden diffusers do not require water to function, which makes them less messy and more convenient to use. Additionally, water-based diffusers can be prone to mould growth, affecting the quality of the fragrance and even causing health problems. With a wooden diffuser, you don't have to worry about any of these issues
Especially if you live somewhere more humid and are worried about adding too much moisture into your spaces, these are the best replacement for those popular mist diffusers that use water.
3. No plugging in necessary: No electricity is necessary with these oil diffusers! Even compared to diffuser reeds that require being lit by a flame, these diffusers just need you to drop your favourite oil on it and let it do its magic. All without tangled cords or tripping hazards.
4. More durable and long-lasting: Wooden diffusers are made with high-quality materials designed to withstand wear and tear. They are less likely to crack or break compared to plastic diffusers, which can save you money in the long run.
5. Provide a more authentic and natural experience: Plastic diffusers have a tendency to dilute the fragrance. The natural absorbent properties of wood make them highly effective at retaining everything from your essential oils, giving you a more authentic, intense and longer-lasting aroma. Thus enhancing the overall relaxation and therapeutic benefits of aromatherapy.
6. Aesthetically pleasing: Wooden diffusers are often more aesthetically pleasing compared to plastic ones. The natural and warm tones of wood can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any room or space. Some wooden diffusers also come in unique and beautiful designs that can serve as decorative pieces.
7. They can go wherever you are: These diffusers aren’t limited to cars. They can follow you into your home and wherever else you may be. Pocketable and ready to use right away with little setup required.
Coming in many shapes and sizes, including a cute flower reminiscent of a sakura flower (also known as cherry blossoms) that are beautiful additions to your daily routine and we're sure you can find the right style for you.
If you drive, then there's a likelihood that you've tried the many different types of air fresheners out there to find the perfect fit and haven't found one that satisfies what you really need. This is exactly why we think it's worth giving a clip on wooden diffuser a try and get rid of all those chemical fragrances.
A common air freshener tree found hanging on rearview mirrors of many cars
Many of those car air fresheners like those plastic vent clip on products or even those popular Little Tree ones that dangle off our rear view mirrors carry some hidden risks when using them. According to a study by the Environmental Working Group, most of the fragrances we'll find in cosmetics and body care alone contain phthalates. This is commonly used to extend the life of the fragrance and you can easily enjoy scents without them.
Using a essential oil based diffuser allows you to take control and switch your scents to match what you're feeling like for the day. You won't be losing out as these diffusers work the best in small spaces. These alone are way better for your health and provide their own benefits every time you use them but make sure you do some research on which oil type works best for you and your situation.
There are multiple types of essential oils you can use such as mint which can help energize you, lavender for its calming effects and orange for promoting clarity. Whichever you decide to use, it just takes 3 simple steps to use a wooden diffuser:
When you’re done, just make sure to wipe any excess essential oils that may remain from the diffuser with a clean cloth and store them in a cool dry place. To make sure the diffuser lasts you for months to come, keep it away from water to prevent cracking.
Choosing a wooden diffuser over any plastic one or the other options is easy when there are so many benefits that can cover all the negative experiences you may have had in the past. When it comes to portability and simplicity alone, it’s hassle-free and saves you money and electricity in the long run. If you want a seamless and sustainable experience with your essential oils, going natural with a wooden diffuser is the best you’ll get out of any space you’ll travel in.

Keeping your kitchen clean and shiny is an important part of maintaining a healthy and hygienic home. While there are many cleaning tools that you can find in stores, one of the most essential items to have is a good scrubber to get all sorts of jobs done.
Dish brushes, specifically those natural ones, have emerged as a popular and eco-friendly alternative to synthetic ones. These brushes are made from sustainable and biodegradable materials, making them a great choice for those who want to reduce their environmental impact.
In this blog, we'll explore the different types of natural dish brushes, the benefits they offer over traditional sponges, and how to clean and care for them. By the end, you'll be armed with the knowledge to choose the right one and keep your dishes and kitchen looking their best, while also doing your part for the planet.
Dish brushes come in many different shapes and sizes, each designed to fit into specific tasks and their own benefits. When it comes to brushes in the past, the most common types you’ve seen are those plastic bristle brushes, sponge brushes and silicone.
But more so now, we’re seeing more and more made from natural materials. Some from sustainably sourced bamboo, while others use coconut fibers or even loofah. These materials are all renewable and biodegradable, making them a great eco-friendly alternative to synthetic dishwashing tools. Not to mention that they’ve been shown to be the more hygienic option.
Bamboo brushes are one of the most popular types of natural dish brushes. They are made from bamboo, a fast-growing and renewable material. Compared to other wooden brushes, you’ll find these to be much more durable as they are quick to dry and don’t nearly as much as those ones would.
Bamboo is sturdy and effective at scrubbing all kinds of dishes, pots, and pans, making them a great choice for everyday use. With the different sizes and shapes, including one that even have replaceable heads, they can be much more hygienic and convenient than others.
Coconut fiber brushes are another popular type of natural dish brush. They are made from the fibers of coconut husks, which are a byproduct of coconut production. The fiber in these brushes are excellent for tackling tough grime and grease, making them ideal for cleaning dirty pots and pans. They are also gentle on surfaces and do not scratch or damage delicate items like glassware.
Loofah scrubbers are more a softer option for cleaning dishes. Made from the fibrous interior of the loofah plant, which is a type of gourd, this makes them ideal for gentle on surfaces and other delicate items like glassware or ceramics. They can also be used for cleaning fruits, vegetables and commonly used for exfoliating in the bathroom.
While sponges have been a popular choice for cleaning dishes for many years, they have do have a fair amount of downsides. They tend to harbor bacteria and must be replaced frequently, which creates more waste.
CNN shares that a study done by a research scientist at Nofimahas found that salmonella and other bacteria have a much higher survival rate than in brushes used for dishwashing. In fact, they claim that this is why most sponges never dry up. Add in that traditional sponges are made of plastic, they can shed microplastics every time you use them and leave them on the surface of your plates or drain into our water supply.
Especially when you opt for more wooden dish brushes, you’ll be adding a powerful scrubber to your kitchen arsenal that is much more cleaner than any other options.
From being much more sustainable to non-toxic and longer lasting, you get the best healthy clean while saving yourself money. Pairing a natural brush with a replaceable brush head and the right dish soap bar can give you the ultimate cleaning duo to tackle those dirty dishes.
To get the most out of your dish brush and make sure it lasts you for months to come, it is super important to care for it properly. Regularly cleaning your brushes help keep the bacteria growth at bay and from spreading to your cups, pots, and plates.
The maintenance is simple and takes up very little time to do. Here are some easy tips to extend the life of those brushes and how to clean it:
Throwing the brush in the dishwasher may sound like the perfect and clean solution for your brush but it can actually shorten its lifespan. Wooden items are prone to crack or warp when soaked and plastics can shed those microplastics in the dishwashing machine.
Of course, there is only so much that you can do when you’ve given your favourite dishwasher so much love. If your brush starts to show significant wear or begins to smell, this your sign that it’s time for a replacement.
With all the options out there, it can be overwhelming to choose from but when it comes to doing the dishes, it’s safe to say that a dish brush is an easy choice to make. Choosing one over sponges is proven to not only be healthier for you but give you an efficient clean. While it may look costly at first, these brushes are to stay for the long haul and is the key to a sparkling kitchen.
Canada is finally taking steps towards banning single use plastics.
Plastic products like single use checkout bags, forks and knives, straws and stir sticks, and containers are some of the items on the chopping block.
Great news for those who recognize the plastic epidemic, bad news for corporations who profit from filling our world with unnecessary waste.
So let’s dive into the details and see what it all really means.
The new regulations, which fall under the title of single use Plastics Prohibition Regulations, plan to address the need for stricter plastic regulations by prohibiting a variety of the most common single use plastic items.
Here’s a list of what’s being banned:
The bans themselves are going to follow a timeline, which started in December of 2022 and should be completed by late 2025.
Basically, the ban on manufacturing and importing most of these items for sale in Canada is already in effect. Exporting these items, however, will be phased out a bit slower. If you want to see a more complete list of all the confusing details, check out the overview of regulations.
Plastic waste is everywhere nowadays. It’s simply not possible to ignore it any longer if you care even the slightest bit about the environment.
It litters our beaches, pollutes our rivers and oceans, and microplastics have been found within human placentas and our blood.
And that’s quite an oversimplification of the issue; the truth is we don’t fully understand yet how widespread plastic is, or what effects it may have on our health or on the environment in the future.
So regulations like this, which cut off the manufacturing and sale of plastic at its source, are some of the most important steps when it comes to solving the plastic crisis.
Wealthy nations like Canada need to be the ones leading the charge when it comes to phasing out plastic, as policy changes like these can have a cascading effect around the globe.
Banning single use plastics does more than restrict the flow of more waste entering the environment.
That’s arguably the most important thing – reducing how much plastic pollution there is – but there are a few other benefits as well.
Regulating single use plastic shines a light on plastic waste, which both encourages sustainable innovation and brings the growing issue into focus for a lot of people who may not have given it much thought before.
Yeah, it may be annoying and inconvenient at first for those who love using plastic products. But it also means that people will seek out eco-friendly options, and may even be motivated to start learning how to live more sustainably.
For those of us who already seek out plastic-free products, things are only going to get easier as more brands switch to less toxic materials.
As with any new policy, there are going to be outspoken critics. Of course, a lot of the criticisms you’ll hear are purely misinformation – but there are some legitimate downsides to consider.
One of the gray areas of these new policies is the banning of non-conventional plastics touted as being compostable or biodegradable. The bioplastics industry is still in its infancy, and many who oppose these bans think that prohibiting them will stifle the development of new bioplastics.
There may be some truth to that, as the new regulations do prohibit the use of bioplastics for things like checkout bags, cutlery, and straws. The problem is, bioplastics generally don’t biodegrade unless it’s done in highly specialized industrial composting facilities anyway – and there’s very little coordination between the production and collection of these materials.
Either way, the Canadian government states in the new regulations that they’re willing to work with the bioplastics industry in regard to the blanket ban, and they can always make amendments in the future.
Another complaint is that the new policies don’t consider the needs of those with disabilities or who need specialized care. For example, plastic straws that bend are a lifesaver for people without the dexterity needed to drink out of cups or cans – and banning them would affect them much more than those who can.
But if you dig into the details of the single use plastic ban, you can find specific exceptions for those with medical needs. It clearly states that medical facilities can still offer things like plastic flexible straws to patients or residents. And just like the bioplastics regulations, there will most likely be future adjustments.
Banning single use plastics is one of the first steps that need to be taken if we want to solve the issue of plastic pollution.
As a wealthy nation, Canada is responsible for encouraging sustainable action within the international community, and these regulations are a fantastic start.
For those of us who despise plastic waste, seeing governments take responsibility only motivates us further!

When all you want to do after a long day is relax, doing your skincare routine can be the last thing you want to do. Makeup is a beautiful way to express ourselves, be creative and enhance our natural beauty. However, as much as we love wearing different makeup looks, taking it all off at the end of the day is both daunting and creates tons of waste.
But it is something you shouldn’t skip out on either as leaving your makeup or even using the wrong makeup remover can cause skin irritation, breakouts, and leave behind residue, leading to clogged pores.
That's why it's important to choose the right makeup remover that is gentle on your skin and effectively removes all traces of makeup to let your skin glow. Something that reusable cotton rounds can easily cover and is a much more sustainable alternative.
All those different types of disposable makeup remover wipes and pads might seem more convenient when they can actually be the culprit of acne and other problems with your skin. For sensitive skin, these can be especially abrasive and irritating when trying to remove stubborn makeup. Not to mention that they can break apart and leave small fibres or residue on the skin without a proper cleansing routine.
Treated chemically and mixed with synthetic fibres, these pads are not all compostable or even biodegradable. When used daily in multiple quantities, the amount of waste in our landfills quickly piles up with to the limited uses they have. Single-use cotton rounds appear inexpensive, but the cost to you and our environment adds up over time.
Reusable cotton rounds can be washed and reused many times and in many ways, without all the issues you’ll encounter with regular ones. They also come in different materials like organic cotton and bamboo, making them multi-purpose for every step in your skincare routine. Thus making them a more cost-effective option and even more convenient.
Reusable cotton rounds can be used in the exact same way as single-use cotton rounds. Simply apply your desired product (such as makeup remover or toner) to the round and gently wipe it over your face. Once you're done, you can wash the cotton round by hand with soap and water and let it air dry or throw it into your washing machine with a mesh bag.
The rounds can be used multiple times and the amount of time they last can vary based on your usage but ultimately can be washed hundreds of times and eliminate frequent trips to the store to purchase new rounds. A much-needed eco-friendly swap to upgrade your bathroom and beauty routine.
From oily to sensitive skin, here are some of the best makeup removers to use with reusable cotton rounds:

There’s nothing like the feeling of using the right soap that covers everything you need! Catering to your own needs is one of the greatest rewarding things about making your own soap at home.
If you’ve ever struggled with dry hands after washing the dishes from those store-bought dish soaps, trust me, we sure can relate! All the more reason to look into more natural soap bars that have the ingredients and scents you want.
From customizing your soap to saving money while helping our environment, making them can be an easy choice but tricky and tedious to do. But don’t be intimidated! We’ll touch on everything you’ll need to know before you select the right bar or make your own.
According to the literal and regulated definition, soap is a combination of fats or oils and an alkali called lye or sodium hydroxide. Lye on its own is known to be very corrosive and should be handled with caution. And while this may be present in the beginning, it is completely gone when your soap is properly made.
To do this, you’ll need to combine these ingredients in a hot or cold process that creates a chemical reaction called saponification and turns all that lye into soap. Thus, is safe and ready to use!
Melt and pour soups is another method that has been on rise, skipping many of these traditional steps and making it easier to do at home. However, you do lose out on customizing the oils that are into the soap and the process can be unforgiving with different ingredients and designs.
With the definition in mind, this actually rules out a ton of the “soaps” that you may see in the grocery store. A great example and one of the most recognizable is all those Dove bars! When you take a look at the packing, you’ll notice that they’ll call it a “beauty bar”.
That’s because they’re not actually made with all those needed ingredients for a soap bar and for legal reasons, they can’t call it soap. Instead, it’s considered a Syndet bar or a synthetic detergent.
According to studies and experts, here is a list of some of the most common ones you’ll want to look out for:
While the majority of these are to be avoided for their irritation and overall impact on the body, palm oil is one of the many ingredients that have a huge negative impact on our planet. Their production has resulted in the loss of large tropical forests, affecting wildlife and plants.
Avoiding this in any product can help make sure we protect our much-needed forests and their ecosystems.
For our own soap making, we use ingredients that are plant-based and sustainable with our planet in mind. Having dishwashing soap bars instead of those liquid ones alone can cover and reduce the waste of 3-5 bottles of those liquid dish soaps!
These bars are handmade in Vancouver with only 4 simple ingredients; coconut oil, olive oil, water, and lye (eliminated in the saponification process). But don’t let these ingredients fool you, this bar is a powerhouse in the kitchen and cuts through stubborn grease with no problem.
And the best part? It is super gentle on the hands and has been an absolute life-changer for me. Making handwashing those dishes much more enjoyable, freeing them from toxins and reaping natural benefits from their ingredients.
This is all possible by the gentle and softness for the skin created by the olive oil, making it suitable for all skin types and conditions. While the coconut oil gives the bar that nice fluffy and stable lather that many other natural bars don’t have.
These bars overall are very concentrated, to make this bar last you for months on end while not being much different, if not better than typical soaps.
Curing is a very important step that should not be missed as it gives the soap time for the saponification process to complete and let the water evaporate. It allows for the soap to harden and for the lye to be completely transformed. Because of this, don’t be surprised if your soap shrinks after it’s cured! This is something you should expect to happen and is a good sign that it’s cured.
The average amount of time to cure soap can take as much as a 4-6 week process. For us, we let our soaps cure for at least 2 months to go beyond this and guarantee that they are completely lye-free by the time they are used!
If you don’t let them properly cure before use, not only does it reduce the quality of the bar but also results in a soap that is much harsher on the skin and can still have lye remaining in the bar. This can cause skin or eye irritation and soap that is softer and does not last. More the reason why to let them cure for as long as they need or longer if possible.
Here’s an example of what happened to our soaps that didn’t cure as long as they should have:
In our first year of creating our dishwashing soap, we didn’t realize the benefits (and needs) of curing soaps. This meant that a few of those that received them were in bad shape by the time they arrived. Since then, we have revamped and improved our soap-making process with a standardized curing time.
Proceed with caution if you do make your own soap! The handling of hazardous materials like lye before its properly cured is what makes this activity difficult and has turned others to find handmade soaps makers instead.
As we’ve discussed, using a bar already gets rid of those bulky plastic bottles and dispensers in the kitchen. One other thing you’ll want to watch for is the excessive amount of water that is used in liquid soaps.
Not only are you paying for a watered-down soap, but you’re also paying for the cost of transporting that bottle since it takes up more space. Therefore, choosing the right bar over a liquid soap can make a huge difference for your wallet in the long run.
It may seem like it’s the easier one to use but it has even more cons than you’d think. Like commercial solid bars, liquid soap also has its own ingredients to avoid as we mention in our blog Why Should I Use Solid Dish Soap and not Liquid Soap?
While not necessary, these 3 considerations can boost the value of your bars and make them last much longer:
To help reduce waste, buying bigger sized bars like a soap brick can also save you money and reduce the amount of waste and transportation needed. Keeping you stocked and worry-free about running out.
The same applies to any ingredients you buy! Look for a local refillery or a bulk store to get those ingredients at a lower cost and with less packaging.
In contrast to using those bottle dispensers, the best practice to make those bars last is to use a soap dish! These allow them to dry properly and depending on which one you use, can gather or deter that leftover water and residue from making a mess on your counters.
Unlike bigger brands, supporting local businesses can not only reduce your impact further but help your community.
With all that we’ve covered, there’s no wonder so many more people have been looking into their own bars to use! Especially when it comes to dishwashing, they are absolutely worth it with all the benefits they give you and how much cleaner they are with very little adjustment.
However, as we’ve shared in our own soap-making process, making your own takes a lot of time. Whether you decide to make your own or find one with all these features, the choice is up to you! But know that not only will your health thank you for using one, but so will our planet.
The holidays are a great time to reflect on the year past and set goals for the coming one. What better way to start off the new year than by making your home more eco-friendly? Here are 8 easy ways that you can make your home more sustainable this holiday season!
While most people enjoy decorating their homes for the holidays, they may not be aware of the many benefits of using LED lights. LED lights use much less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs, which means they can save money on your electricity bill. They also generate very little heat, so they are safer to use around children and pets. Plus, they are more durable and long-lasting than conventional bulbs, so you can reuse them year after year. And since they come in a variety of colors and styles, you can easily find LED lights to fit any holiday decoration scheme. So this holiday season, ditch the old-fashioned lights and go green (and red) with LEDs. Your wallet will thank you.
Holiday lights are a cheerful addition to any home, but they can also be a drain on resources. In the United States alone, households consume an estimated six billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year just from holiday lighting. This is the equivalent of the annual output of nearly 600 power plants. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce the environmental impact of holiday lights without sacrificing holiday cheer or convenience. One relatively simple solution is to put holiday lights on a timer. By setting lights to turn off automatically after a certain number of hours, it's possible to significantly reduce energy consumption. Additionally, timers can help to prolong the life of light bulbs by preventing them from being left on for extended periods of time.
The holiday season is a time for feasting, and that often means importing ingredients from all over the world. However, this comes at a cost to the environment, as long-distance transport has a large carbon footprint. Shopping locally for holiday meals is one way to make your home more eco-friendly. Not only will you be supporting local farmers and businesses, but you'll also be reducing your carbon footprint. Local produce is often fresher and more flavorful than imported ingredients, so you'll be able to enjoy a delicious meal while doing your part to protect the planet.
As the holidays approach, many of us start to think about gift-giving. But in addition to finding the perfect present, we also need to figure out how to package it. While store-bought wrapping paper is convenient, it can also be expensive and bad for the environment. Every year, Americans throw away millions of tons of wrapping paper, most of which ends up in a landfill. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to wrap gifts that are both eco-friendly and creative.
One option is to use recycled materials like newspapers or fabric scraps. This not only reduces waste but can also add a unique touch to your gifts. If you're looking for something a little more festive, you can make your own wrapping paper using stamps, paint, or candy wrappers. Not only will your gifts look great under the tree, but you'll also be doing your part to help the planet. So this holiday season, think outside the box and get creative with your gift wrapping!
If you're getting ready to host a holiday party, you want to make sure your home is sparkling. But with all the extra cooking and entertaining, who has time to scrub the floors and polish the furniture? The good news is that there are plenty of natural cleaning products that can help you get the job done quickly and easily. From lemon juice to baking soda, there are lots of household ingredients that can be used to clean your home from top to bottom. Not only are natural cleaning products better for the environment, but they're also often more effective than traditional chemical-based cleaners. So when you're getting ready for your holiday party, reach for the lemons instead of the bleach - your guests will be glad you did!
Christmas is a time for giving, but it's also a time for generating a lot of waste. According to a recent study, the average American household produces 25% more trash during the holidays than at any other time of year. A large portion of this waste comes in the form of unwanted Christmas gifts. Every year, millions of Americans receive gifts that they either don't want or can't use. As a result, these items often end up in landfills, where they'll sit for years without decomposing.
One way to reduce the amount of holiday waste is to donate or re-gift unwanted Christmas gifts. There are many charities that collect gently used items and distribute them to people in need. So if you receive a gift that you know you'll never use, consider donating it to a local charity. Or if you know someone who would appreciate the gift more than you do, consider re-gifting it to them. Not only will this help to reduce waste, but it will also make someone's holiday a little brighter.
Now that we know how much waste ends up in landfills due to the holidays, it may be time to consider an alternative to traditional presents. If you're looking for an eco-friendly gift idea, why not give a plant? Potted plants are a great way to add some natural beauty to your home, and they don't require any extra packaging or wrapping paper. And if you don't have a green thumb, there are plenty of other options such as gift certificates for local services (eco-friendly cleaning business or environmentally conscious irrigation company) or a donation to an environmental cause that many people would love receiving!
It is easy to get wrapped up in buying and consuming over the Christmas holiday, however, one of the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint during the season is to remember that Christmas is about more than gifts and material items. Taking the time to reflect on the main point of Christmas and celebrating with your family will help you focus less on consumption and more on the true meaning of the season. Take a moment to appreciate what makes this time of year special - from spending quality time together, to enjoying holiday meals, to playing traditional Christmas games - and remind yourself of why you love the holiday season.
Outdoor lights are a beautiful way to decorate any home for the holidays. This season, consider using eco-friendly ground lights to bring the holiday spirit into your yard. Ground lights provide a unique and eye-catching way to light up your outdoor space while also being better for the environment than traditional lighting fixtures.
Ground lights come in a variety of shapes and sizes, making them perfect for adding festive flair to your garden or patio area. The lower wattage used by these lights helps reduce energy consumption compared with conventional outdoor lighting options, which can be important when it comes to saving money on electricity bills during the holidays. Many of these eco-friendly outdoor lighting solutions are long lasting and require minimal maintenance, so you can enjoy their beauty without worrying about constantly replacing bulbs or cords.
By following these simple tips, you can make your home more eco-friendly and reduce your carbon footprint this holiday season. And who knows? You might even find that going green brings a whole new level of joy to Christmas!
]]>For many, this 2022 holiday season is one of the first times for us to fully enjoy gatherings, exchange gifts, and all those other fun holiday moments before COVID. It may be as fun as it was before but let’s be real, gift giving costs us more than just money. It brings anxiety, consumes energy, and takes hours and days even to find or decide on the right gifts. Being sustainable on its own is a hustle, not only for the environment but also for ourselves. So for folks who care about being sustainable during the holidays, it’s double the hustle.
This may be overwhelming but there are many ways to tackle this within your own journeys. Here are 11 different ways to help you take on gift-giving this holiday.
In the US itself, as much as 5.8 billion pounds of inventory that returned ends up in our landfill and it emphasizes now more than ever that we need to be more intentional about our spending.
While some of these may take some time to get used to, these practices can help reduce those returns. And ultimately, the impact that we have on our planet this holiday season.
As someone who has never heard of Krabi, I was lured in by those sponsored Instagram Reels the first week I arrived in Bangkok. All those reels that targeted me visualized the beaches a travel agency would use in their marketing to show the perfect vacation that to some avail, I couldn’t resist.
Ao Nang Beach
The first day when I sat by Ao Nang Beach there, I was shocked by the layers of colours of the ocean. This was not just a dream coming true, it was a moment beyond my wildest fantasy.
Don’t get me wrong, I am based in Vancouver and we have insanely beautiful beaches, waters, and sky here. It is not like when I lived in Toronto where people say they went to the beach over the weekend but meant one of Ontario Lake beaches. Which isn’t actually a real beach. (Sorry, but not sorry.)
Lake Ontario
Lake Ontario may be the most polluted out of the five Great Lakes. You can even smell the pollution without seeing the water yourself. It’s like a constant reminder that much more needs to be done to deal with the many chemicals that enter our world’s largest surface area of fresh water. The feeling of being powerless has haunted me despite leaving Toronto for 2 years.
Now I am in Krabi, Thailand. Even though sometimes I see plastic in the water here, as long as I pretend they are not there. I can still enjoy the view. “Just enjoy it and don’t think about it. Just don’t look, as if they are not there.” I calmed myself down. Once I got to the real island, I can swim in the clean water.
Krabi Shoreside (Thailand)
Finally, I got to the small island with beaches and lagoons, the real paradise, where true nature can be found. I jumped into the water, and dived deeply, without scuba gear. The water was cool but my heart was warmed. There were so many fish. All I had was my swimming goggles, and I saw Nemo (aka clown dishes) and their little family in sea anemones. The low tide kept the water clear and waves down while my body floated above them. I could’ve watched them for hours.
One of the fishes with stripes bit or kissed my butt and when I swirled around, I ended up touching even more of them. The noise I made almost had me lose air and take in water, but I couldn’t keep the thrills in me. This wasn’t cheap thrills. It was one of the most sensational pleasures I ever felt, running through my fingers to my whole body, and then rippling back into my heart.
Even at the very moment as my fingers are typing on a keyboard, I can still vividly re-live that moment simply by closing my eyes and touching the air.
Playing with those fish was one thing. The water on the other hand was the real deal that made it so real and somehow surreal. Swimming in the ocean isn’t like going to a summer pool. The warmth and coolness took turns to surprise me, in a refreshing way.
Then I felt something familiar, oddly, it was a plastic bottle, at least been there for weeks. Maybe even years. My mind was not really surprised, yet my body was still shocked.
I started talking to myself:
“What are you expecting, Lydia? A wilderness that is untouched? But you are one of the travellers? And it is not even peak season.
Didn’t you just buy a plastic bottle of water this morning? It is a hot day and your water bottle won’t be enough for the whole day. Why are you still clinging to the idealized tour? Yes across the ocean, swimming with fishes, and breathing with breezes make you feel like you live out of fantasy.
Wake up, you need to acknowledge the reality of what surrounds me since I am here: there were always plastics every day. You have been seeing them, you have been using them, and you have been putting a lot of them in the trash bins every day since you got here.
When plastics showed up, you looked the other away and focus on the sky or water so you could disregard the thought of them going to a landfill (our earth) or the water.
Don’t forget to mention, how did you get to Hong Island? On a boat burning gas. Have you calculated how many carbon footprints you left during your trip? You probably will be so shocked. Do you dare to do the math even?”
“Time for lunch, my friend!” The tour guide interrupted my spiralling thoughts.
Maybe I am being too hard on myself. “At the end of the day, I am trying my best right?” I picked up the plastic bottles and put them in the bin on the small island.
The guilt seems to have eclipsed a little, and so did the pleasure.
Then I took my combo lunch like everyone else on the tour: a single-use plastic bento box and a plastic bottle of water.
]]>Whether you wet your toothbrush before or after the toothpaste (I personally do both), we all got our daily bathroom routines. From those electric toothbrushes to dental floss picks, there are so many options to choose from and it’s easy to stick to what we know.
However, switching up that routine and making our bathrooms eco-friendlier is much easier than you think. In fact, it might actually be a lot more convenient than what you’re doing right now!
Here are 3 swaps you’ll want to try next time you need that replacement.
You’ve probably heard of a bamboo toothbrush before, but have you heard of a refillable one?
A refillable bamboo toothbrush works just like any other toothbrush but without all the plastic. The only difference from a regular bamboo toothbrush is that you can replace the brush head and compost the old one!
Most toothbrushes in stores are made of a mix of different plastics, making them hard to recycle. Bamboo on the other hand is one of the fastest-growing plants on our planet and is 100% biodegradable.
They self-replenish and require little care for them to grow. Adding sustainable practices to this makes bamboo much better for the environment.
Now this one is something you might have not heard before. I know it may sound a little intimidating but it’s simple and takes little adjustment to use.
These chewable tablets are made of plant-based ingredients without all the harsh chemicals you’d find in your usual toothpaste. Best of all? There’s no more struggling with squeezing out that last bit of toothpaste or leftover gobs in your sink.
Tubed toothpaste is the most common way for toothpaste to be packaged and it’s exactly why they are harmful to our environment.
Just like those plastic toothbrushes, many of those tubes are made of a mix of plastics and are not easily recycled so they end up being thrown away. Even if the tubes are made of materials like metal, they are more likely to burst and cause a mess.
Using tablets not only shifts us away from those tubes but also condenses all you’ll need in tin without worrying about contaminating our oceans with chemicals. You also won’t need those travel-size tubes either.
These toothpaste tablets are chewable and might take some getting use to but are simple to use:
I don’t know about you but one thing I’ve always felt guilty about is the fact that I can’t refill my dental floss and how much I use. Believe me, I’ve tried but the brands I've used don’t make it easy.
The corn starch dental floss doesn’t really have any adjustment, aside from buying refills instead of the whole package. The difference it makes is in its plant-based materials, making it 100% biodegradable.
And coming in a bamboo case, refilling couldn’t be any more painless.
Most traditional dental floss is made of nylon and with how small they are, they aren’t accepted at recycling facilities and end up in our landfills. The same goes for the small plastic container many come with.
When you factor in that many people don’t refill those containers, that plastic really adds up. So much so that most dental floss can take up to 500 years to decompose!
Whether you try out one or try them all, these are easy swaps that make little to no changes in your routine while making your bathroom more eco-friendly by reducing waste. All while making our lives a little more convenient.
How often should I change my toothbrush?
Dentists recommend changing our brushes as early as the 3-month mark. This is because of the wear the bristles take on overtime and any further use can cause damage to our teeth.
How do you keep a bamboo toothbrush from getting moldy?
Like many things, exposure to water can cause mold. To avoid this, make sure to keep your brush in an open and dry area rather than a container or cabinet. If needed, use a towel to dry the bristles and handle.
How do you compost the refillable bamboo brush head?
Use tweezers or a plier to remove the bristles from the head before composting.
Where are the toothpaste tablets made?
These tablets are made in Canada by Change Toothpaste with plant-based ingredients! More specifically, in Edmonton, Alberta.
Do toothpaste tablets work?
Toothpaste tablets work just like any toothpaste (maybe even better)! The only difference is that they're in a chewable tablet form and are made with 100% natural ingredients. Not to mention, they are vegan and animal cruelty-free (:
Can You Swallow Toothpaste Tablets?
Yes! If you happen to swallow the toothpaste, there’s nothing to worry about. You won’t find any of those harsh chemicals like fluoride or saccharin that are found in the usual tube toothpaste in the tablets. Therefore, making it completely safe to swallow.
Do I need fluoride toothpaste?
Toothpaste without fluoride can effectively clean teeth, especially that buildup so it is not needed. If you’re looking for a toothpaste option without fluoride and all-natural ingredients, these toothpaste tablets are the best for you!
What is the most eco-friendly floss made of?
Corn starch dental floss and a bamboo case are one of the most, if not the most, eco-friendly options out there! Made of plant-based materials, it’s 100% biodegradable and easy to use.
How do you refill the corn starch dental floss?
Simply remove the top half of the bamboo case, insert your refill of floss, and run the end through the hole in the top. Once through, place the two halves back together and you’re ready to go!
How do I take care of the bamboo case?
To make sure it lasts you for a long time, keep away from water. An extra step that you can do is treat it with food-grade oil every 2-3 weeks.

As we mentioned in our blog post "Putting Together a Green Home", homeowners can play their part in keeping the planet healthy by implementing easy lifestyle changes within their households. Simply making the switch to eco-friendly products –– such as natural loofahs, handmade soaps, and reusable cotton rounds –– can easily help households reduce their carbon footprints.
Homeowners can also apply these changes to eco-friendly hobbies like gardening. The practice of gardening already helps the environment by protecting the soil, producing clean air, and supporting small animals like birds and insects.
By using eco-friendly gardening products though, gardeners can go even further toward creating a positive environmental impact. To help you build your eco-friendly gardening arsenal, we’ve listed a few useful tools you may want to consider for sustainable practices!
The biggest problem with store-bought weed killers is that they don’t just harm the weeds in your garden. SymptomFind’s article on weed killers explains that they can also contaminate drinking water and threaten the health of your family, your pets, and the wildlife around you. To avoid these harmful issues, you can instead get rid of weeds by making a natural weed killer at home.
Vinegar-Based Spray
The acidity of vinegar helps it absorb moisture from weeds, thus killing them without the use of harmful chemicals. You can also apply cornmeal to your soil to prevent weed seeds from germinating any further!
To cut down on plastic usage in your garden by sowing seeds, using biodegradable pots is another option to try. According to Gap Garden’s list of biodegradable pot benefits, pots made out of biodegradable fibers are better for overall plant health.
Their soft fibers will break down in the soil naturally, allowing growing seedlings to spread their roots out and breathe. And since they are single-use and do not require any washing or sterilizing, these pots also help gardeners save water.
Biodegradable pots can be made from paper, coconut fibers, recycled pulp, bamboo, and even manure.
The usual materials used in making traditional gardening gloves –– namely rubber, cotton, and leather –– tend to be associated with unsustainable manufacturing processes. But you can protect your hands and mitigate your environmental impact while gardening by using gloves that are instead made from eco-friendly fibers, such as organic cotton.
Data compiled by LIVEKINDLY conveys that farmers of organic cotton have made the cotton manufacturing process more environmentally friendly by reducing water consumption to 88%, banning pesticides, and implementing healthy soil-building practices. Additionally, organic cotton is free of toxic chemicals, which allows it to safely degrade into the earth once disposed of.
Finally, cut down on water consumption by opting for a watering can over hoses or sprinklers. To avoid throwing out worn or broken watering cans, you should opt for cans that are made out of durable materials, such as metal.
You can also reduce waste by making watering cans out of recycled materials, with a Balcony Garden Web overview of DIY watering cans suggesting items like old bottles, milk jugs, or mason jars.
Gardening is one of the most eco-friendly hobbies you can practice at home. By caring for plants, gardeners help improve soil quality, produce clean oxygen, and support animal life. But you can make the hobby even more eco-friendly by using the proper substances and materials to minimize unwanted environmental disruption.

As concerns about the environment and the planet's health continue to grow, homeowners have been more interested in figuring out how to live green, eco-friendly lifestyles. We all want to pitch in and do better for the environment and it can take as little doing a few minutes of research on the web with Heritage Reforestation reviews and other insightful resources before going ahead and putting together a plan for your land.
You want your home to be greener and often, it starts from the outside in! Besides the numerous environmental benefits that green living can bring, it's also convenient and affordable and can increase your home's value. So let's dive into how you weave together a greener home that works for you.
A great place to start when going green is to ask yourself what household items could be replaced with eco-friendly versions. There's a lot of small items that might be slipping past your notice:
Switching to these products also supports small businesses.
Of course, don't forget to stick to the classics; recycling, composting, and unplugging devices can all reduce your carbon footprint. In fact, unplugging unused devices can save you hundreds of dollars each year and cut back on the huge amounts of power used by such devices.
Consider eco-friendly appliances too. Things like fridges, ovens/stoves, and washing machines are among the most power-hungry devices in homes.
Fortunately, you don't have to think about washing everything by hand; a number of brands provide high-quality eco-friendly appliances, such as those from Miele or Smeg. They're pretty stylish too.
Small lifestyle changes are one thing, but starting out with an eco-friendly home brings massive environmental benefits.
One of the more popular features for green homes recently has been solar panels; these provide clean energy and save money over the long term as your energy source is free. Plus, simply having them installed can add around 3-4% to the value of your home.
Other great green features include quality insulation, underfloor heating, and the liberal use of skylights throughout the home. Most of these benefits come in the form of better energy efficiency. Skylights let you use sunlight during the day, reducing your electricity consumption and bill.
Not only are green homes affordable to build and cheap to maintain, but they're also in high demand, especially in Canada. With so many green home features tied to conserving heat, it's no surprise that with Canada's cold winters, more and more people are looking to buy eco-friendly homes.
So, if you're planning on turning yours green, you can expect to sell it for a good price. As mentioned above, just adding solar panels alone can add 3-4% to your home's value. Imagine how much value other improvements might add?
Make sure to track all your eco-friendly improvements and save your receipts to set your added values in stone when it comes time to sell.
